Thankful For You - SDC67

I have to say that I love this time of year when we reflect on all the things for which we are thankful.  I am blessed in so many ways and I thank God for all of it.

SUDSOL (demonstrator website) had a Design Challenge (SDC67) to make a card with a "Give Thanks" theme.  This is what I came up with.

I pulled out my ever faithful Lovely As A Tree stamp set.  You can never go wrong with that set!  I embossed the maple leave image in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink and watercolored it with our Watercolor Wonder Crayons and Aqua Painters.  Love those too products!  I'm not an artist but those two products put together just about make me one!  They are so beautiful!  I added some brads and ribbon for embellishment and that is it!  I think my hubby may just get this card on Thanksgiving!  ;0)

One of the things that I am thankful for is my Stampin' Up! business and all of the wonderful people it has put in my life!  THANK YOU!  Thank you for following my blog, coming to my classes, joining my clubs and just sharing your love of paper crafting with me!

CARD REQUEST - PLEASE HELP!

 I made this card to send to a 10 year old boy who is very sick and in a local children's hospital.  He has been there since November 1st and has battled: H1N1, pneumonia, a staph infection and a collapsed lung.  He is now battling a fluid build up in his lungs but the doctor's are unable to determine where the fluid is coming from. 

His name is Nathan and as you can imagine, he is beginning to get a little frustrated and tired of being ill.  Each time he gets a little better and hears of going home, he takes a few steps backwards.

Please, please join me in sending him cards to raise his spirits.  He is defying doctors' predictions in his healing and has been an amazing fighter.  He is blessed with a strong Christian family who have been battling with prayer.  But, they could use some of your warm wishes.

TUTORIAL: Distressing and an Extremely Distresses Dirtbike Rider (SC241)

I had this card in mind right when I saw Sketch Challenge 241 over on Splitcoast.

I wanted to achieve a "distressed" look with my card like you see on all of the boys clothing in the store right now.  I don't have the Extreme Elements set (yet) that compliments this Extreme Dirt Bike stamp, so I had to go to work with what I did have.

When I realized all the ways that you can add distressing to a project, I decided to show this card and distressing to my club classes last week.  I thought I would show you too!

My son, Hunter, begged me all week to make this card after he saw it - I guess that means he likes it.  So, HE will be giving you the tutorial today as I photographed his progress as he created this card.

Here we go:

The left panel has three different methods of distressing:

The first technique is sanding.  Hunter used our Sanding Blocks directly on a piece of Kraft Designer Series Paper. 

Here you can see the difference of Hunter's sanded piece on the left and an untouched piece on the right.  Sanding reveals the white core of our Designer Series Paper.

The next technique is Direct To Paper.  This is where you rub your Classic Stamp Pad directly on your paper.  It is similar to sponging but without the sponges and a much more harsh result.

The next technique, still on that first panel on the left, is generational stamping.  This is where you ink up your stamp and take the first generation or two of ink off by stamping it on your Grid Paper.  You don't want dark images when everything else is faded and worn.

You can also do some "Faded Stamping".  That is my term for it and I'm not sure if that is the official name of the technique.  This is where you don't ink up the entire image and you half stamp it so you don't get a full image on your project.  Does that make sense?

This panel is now complete.  The right panel was stamped with our Sanded background stamp.  Some of Stampin' Up!'s stamp sets are distressed in their design - and this is one of them!

On the focal panel, Hunter does the bleaching technique.  To bleach,

1.  Create a stamp pad with layered/folded paper towel in a glass/ceramic dish. 

2.  Saturate paper towel pad with bleach (cheap bleach works best).

3.  Ink stamp with bleach and stamp

4.  CLEAN STAMP IMMEDIATELY WITH STAMPIN' MIST!  If you leave bleach on your stamp, it will dry out your rubber image.

5.  Let your bleached image dry completely.  You can help it along with a little shot from your Heat Tool.

Each card stock color will bleach out to a different color.  Do a little experimenting and see what I mean.

Hunter stamped the main image in Not Quite Navy Craft Ink.  You can see that the bleach did a little work on that image as well.  If desired, you could re-stamp the image again, using a Stamp-a-ma-jig stamp positioner, for a solid dark image.

The distress in this photo is done with the distressing tool that comes with our Cutter Kit.  Love that kit!  Just take the distressing tool and run it along the sides of your card stock piece and it will rough it up nicely!

This is my boys' favorite tool - the Color Spritzer!  Just insert any of our Stampin' Write markers for a cool air brushed look!

Hunter used our new Soft Suede Marker to air brush his card.

More stamp-based distressing here.  Our Itty Bitty Backgrounds set is a classic and this random speckle image in the set is a perfect addition to our project.

Hunter stamped this image in Not Quite Navy Classic Ink.

Don't put away your Sanding Blocks yet!  Use them one last time to distress your brads.  Gasp!  Yes, sand away and any of our hardware pieces to take away the shine and make them look a little more antiqued or distressed!

Whew, we got them all on one project!

Here is Hunter's final project.  Isn't it great?!  He was so excited with his creation.

You will notice that his rider is upside-down while my original sample he was right-side up.  Hunter's rider is doing a "heel-clicker back flip" while my rider is a beginner with just a "heel clicker".  These are freestyle motocross terms in case you are wondering!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL OF THE WONDERFUL DADS OUT THERE!

Here is my hubby's Father's Day Card!  I used the same set Bret's and I did for his dad Les - Totally Tool.  They are both very handy guys.

The layout comes from a sketch in the last issue of Paper Crafts magazine and fit perfectly with my three tools.  The color combo is another stretch for me and than what I normally use for my husband.  Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss, Kraft and Confetti White.  I will miss Pacific Point and Kiwi Kiss as they are two of our current In Colors that are retiring.

I used the Short Order Alphabet and Numbers set for the greeting and added the Sanded background stamp for a little texture on the Kraft strip.

The colors were inspired by the Sears gift card that I'm giving Bret for Father's Day.  Isn't it bright?!   

I wanted to do something fun for the gift card rather than just slide it inside so I came up with this.  I layer a piece of Kraft card stock on the inside and stamped it randomly with tools.  I made a strip in the center for a little pop up card and mounted a Kiwi Kiss gift card holder on the front.

Here is a view behind the gift card so you get an idea of what I did. 

It was actually very easy to do.  The toughest part of the entire card was getting the greeting on the front to line up straight.  I even used my Stamp A Ma Jig stamp positioner!  But it is late and I should be in bed.

I made this card for my Father-in-Law for Father's Day.  I wanted to keep the embellishments to a minimum as I know how much the USPS loves cards with lots of dimension!

The layout was inspired by the Mojo Monday Sketch 91.  The overall card size is 3" x 6".

This card features product that is going away at the end of the month, things that are here to stay and a new stamp set - hence the title "Coming and Going"

The Going: Kiwi Kiss card stock and Basic Gray Patterns Designer Series Paper.

The Here To Stay: Totally Tool stamp set, Basic Black and Whisper White card stock and Not Quite Navy Textured Card stock.

The New: The Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.  I love it and you will too when it arrives in the new catalog!

I really like how this turned out.  It is just clean and simple and a different color combo for me!  I did emboss the hammer and watercolored it with Blender Pens and Classic Ink Pads

I made this card for our Icy Inkers meeting this week.  I CASE'd it from Mary Brown.

I thought I would post it today as I used the "To The Nines" Designer Series Paper and today is National Tailors Day.  Does that make any sense?

I love this paper - great colors and texture.  I can say the same for our corduroy buttons!  I had not played with those until I offered my Masculine Card Class.  I love them - great embellishment for a masculine card.  This Totally Tool set is perfect for Father's Day cards too.  Especially my husband!  I need to use it more!

Two Birthdays, Two Cards, One Sketch

So I had to make two birthday cards tonight as my in-laws are on their way and both their birthdays are this week.

I used the Splitcoast Sketch Challenge (SC227)this week as my starting point and grabbed some DSP.  Woo Hoo-quick and easy cards!

This one is for my mother-in-law and it features the Candy Lane DSP.  The Scallop Edge Punch and some Ruby Red brads add the embellishment.  The DSP does all the work!  The stamp set is Happy Everything.

This one is for my father-in-law.  Though it is a little more "dressy" than he is, it definitely give the feel of a masculine card. 

I used the To The Nines DSP and added a Build-a-Brad for the embellishment.  I love how it looks like a cuff-link!

I was working on this little item this morning for the patterns coordinator over at SUDSOL.  She wanted to update our gallery for this project with more current samples.

Do you know what it is???

It's a paper gift bag!  Isn't it cute?  I am just tickled with the way that it turned out.  I used the Designer Series Paper - To The Nines.  It was perfect for a dress shirt and tie.

I know I'm a little early for Father's Day but I trended towards a masculine paper bag shirt rather than a feminine one.  Simply add some lace, flower or pearls to create a feminine gift bag.

Start with a paper lunch sack.  I cut a bit off the top of mine-I didn't want a long-waisted bag.  ;0) 

The dimensions of the bag are 5 1/8" x 9 3/4".  For the collar-I went down 1 1/4" on opposite sides of the bag and cut in 2" on either side.  You then just fold them down and to the center until the tips meet.

I laid the bag flat and covered both sides with the Designer Series Paper.  I switched the pattern on the inside of the shirt collar so it was different than the outside.  I adhered the collar down with glue dots and added buttons tied with linen thread for a realistic look.  You can simply flip up the collar to open the bag!

I was going to use ribbon for the tie but it was too narrow.  After looking online, I found a pattern for an origami tie HERE.  I used a 5" x 5" square of Designer Series Paper for my tie.
